| Asthma |
Asthma is a chronic respiratory system illness in which the airway
occasionally constricts, becomes inflamed, and is lined with excessive
amounts of mucus. These episodes will often in response to one or
more triggering mechanisms. These triggers may include such things
as exposure to allergens, cold air, warm air, moist air, exercise or
exertion, and even emotional stress.
This airway narrowing causes one or more of the following symptoms:
Wheezing
Shortness of breath,
Chest tightness
Coughing.
The range of symptoms may be from mild to life threatening.
Symptoms can usually be controlled with a combination of drugs and
avoidance of environmental triggering factors.
